Premier League Action – Week 6
The Premier League Action Week 6, never ceases to deliver thrilling moments and intense battles, and this weekend was no exception. From tactical masterclasses to dramatic comebacks, here are the key takeaways from the weekend’s action across England’s top-flight clubs.
1. Manchester City Held By Newcastle
Its early days but Man City seem to be losing some momentum. Losing Rodri for the season will be a blow they need to deal with and having KDB out on the sidelines is not helping either. Phil Foden needs more time on the pitch and he needs to bring his A game if City are to keep their pressure on winning their 5th consecutive title. It looks like if Halaand can be kept quiet City can be kept quiet. Newcastle were fantastic all over the pitch and everyone had a standout performance but Gordon and Guimaraes were standouts in my eyes.
2. Arsenal’s Title Hopes Get a Boost
Arsenal’s young guns were at their best, putting in a dominant performance that has raised hopes among fans for a potential title challenge. Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard pulled the strings in midfield, while Gabriel Jesus led the line with composure and maturity.
- Saka’s creativity and Ødegaard’s leadership have been crucial for Arsenal’s success.
- The Gunners have now won 4, drawn 2 which is the same as Man City.
3. Chelsea’s Revival Under Maresca?
Enzo Maresca’s influence is starting to show at Chelsea, with a hard-fought win over a resilient Brighton side. While there are still areas of concern, particularly in defense, the Blues are beginning to show signs of a coherent style under the new manager.
- Cole Palmer was the standout player, providing pace and creativity down the middle.
- Chelsea fans will be hoping for more consistency as the season progresses.
- Nicholas Jackson looks to be in superb form as does loanee Sancho
4. Tottenham’s Stellar Performance
Tottenham’s season continues to be a rollercoaster ride, with a thrilling 3-0 win over Manchester United. Ange Postecoglou’s men showed attacking brilliance but nearly let the game slip with some chaotic defending in the final minutes.
5. Manchester United’s Midfield Dilemma
Erik ten Hag’s struggles to find the right midfield combination were evident again, as United slumped to a disappointing loss against Spurs. Bruno Fernandes was sent off early in the game for a weak challenge. The card might be debateable but the final outcome looked to have been set since the first whistle. ETH is yet to find the right balance, leaving United vulnerable to counter-attacks.
- Midfield Conundrum: United fans are calling for more dynamism in the middle.
- Tactical Change Needed? Ten Hag may need to consider altering his formation.
- Manager Change: Will ETH be the first manager to be sacked this season?
6. Everton’s Turning Point
Everton secured a much-needed win, providing a glimmer of hope for their fans. After giving up 2 goal cushions in the previous games to lose, even the Evertonian faithful would have given up hopes of a turnaround after Guehi’s goal so early in the game. But Everton were resilient, kept their shape, kept their lines and more importantly kept their head in the game.
- Turning Point? This could be the catalyst for a mid-table push.
- Key Player: Dwight McNeil seems to have found some forms coring both goals and keeping some glimmer of hope alive for Everton
7. Brentford Tie with West Ham
Based on recent events it would seem like West Ham are in trouble and Brentford’s form suggested that they would win relatively easily against struggling West Ham. The 1st minute goal from Mbeumo looked like a sign of things to come. West Ham held on and Soucek who seems to be their talisman for this season came up with the goods in the 54th minute to tie the game. Both teams were entertaining and it could have gone either way. West Ham can use this as a catalyst for better things to come.
8. Liverpool wows and Wolves woes
Despite being at the top of the table at the end of Premier League Action Week 6 Liverpool do not look convincing. While they did have some good chances, I, and I believe everyone expected them to do much better against bottom of the table Wolves. There doesn’t seem to be any fluidity in the game. Arne Slot has just stepped in so it might take him some time to smoothen things out. While Salah is still quite the player they do need to think about limiting his game thing and finding newer talent to fill that space which he might vacate in a year or 2.
